Description

A fun way to show off a favorite photo in a carved pumpkin!

Tags: pumpkin , halloween

What you'll need:

  • a pumpkin
  • pumpkin carving tools
  • a favorite photo printed on copy paper
  • push pins
  • candle or led light

How to make it:

  • 1.

    Print and cut

Print out a favorite photo on copy paper, not photo paper. If you have a photo editing tool, make the photo black and white or orange. Cut the photo out.

  • 2.

    Mark the size

Place your photo on your pumpkin and mark the corners so you know approximately how big to cut the hole in the pumpkin.

  • 3.

    Carve the pumpkin

Cut the top off of the pumpkin and clean it out as you normally would. Cut a square out of the pumpkin slightly smaller than your photo.

  • 4.

    Pin in place

Place your photo on the inside of the pumpkin and hold it in place with push pins around the edge.

  • 5.

    Finished

Now you have a photo pumpkin!

  • 6.

    Light it up

LED lights would be the best choice for lighting up your photo pumpkin as there is less risk of it catching fire. If you do use a candle, do not leave your photo pumpkin unattended.

This is a really fun idea. The small pumpkins done this way would be terrific as placecards at the table, too! I bet my son would love to make one like this using his puppy's face!

I love this idea. I have the cutest pic of my son's three children from last years Halloween when we all visited the Pumpkin Patch where we live. I'm going to get this ready for them when they come over on Halloween so they are able to see themselves on Nana's "Halloween TV". They will love it! Thank you for the smashing, simple and special Frame Idea. It just hit me, I think I'll try to find a plastic pumpkin and put a light in it. I have a great Dremel attachment that will allow me to make an opening for the light and the pic. Love, love, love it!
Thank you so much! Pam & Ray--Don't tell the kids.

Creative, cute! But is it a temporary thing? Pumpkins, once carved, eventually rot. But I'll try it.
But where should I get the led lighting? I use glow sticks, in stead of candles.

I think the glow sticks will work just as well.
Yes, the pumpkins will rot, but it's cute for a Halloween party or Halloween night :)

If you don't like getting messy with a real pumpkin you can use a craft pumpkin you can carve like a real pumpkin. I'm thinking about using a transparency sheet you print on to use with over head projectors and put a photo in the pumpkin. Make the picture with a white background and the image you want. Find one that is faint in color to make the image look like a ghost. Use a LED votive to light up the pumpkin to show off the image.
